What is Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?

In Common Language, the Cleanliness Disease.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder, a psychological problem, is an illness that can reduce a person's quality of life. This disease, which can be seen in many people, can be treated with medication or therapy. In addition to being a condition that varies from person to person, the disease is also known in common language as the cleanliness disease. Among the most important symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder is that the person repeatedly performs an action or situation in a way they cannot stop. For example; after cooking in the kitchen, even though the person is sure they have turned off the stove, the desire to check it repeatedly arises. The frequency of checking can continue as a desire to check more than four or five times, or even for hours.

An Irresistible Urge is Felt.

Apart from this, even if the person washes their hands in the most hygienic way, continuing to wash them is an example of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Situations such as counting steps uncontrollably, trying not to step on the lines on the sidewalk, or stirring a meal dozens of times can also be among the examples. The person experiencing this situation is aware that what they are doing is absurd, but there is still an irresistible urge. This condition, which can be treated, can be controlled with quite easy treatment. In studies, it has been proven that genetic factors play a significant role in this condition, just as obsessive-compulsive disorder can be seen in any person.
