Age Difference in Marriage

In Turkey, in most marriages, the man is older than the woman. Although the situation where the woman is older and the man is younger, which is very rarely seen, has increased slightly in recent years, male dominance still prevails when we look at the general picture. One of the reasons why men are preferred to be older is, undoubtedly, the thought that men mature later. Furthermore, the older man is expected to protect and care for the woman. Ideally, a difference of 3 or 4 years is expected, but this situation can extend up to 10 years, and sometimes quite significant differences can occur. The financial strength and careers of men also have considerable importance in the age difference.

Wisdom is Not in Age

Even if we say that love has no age, when it comes to reality, the situation is not quite as stated. Women do not want to marry men younger than themselves, or many men want to choose women younger than themselves as spouses. Many people focus so much on the age criterion when choosing a spouse that the main issues are often overlooked. Negative decisions can be made based on the age criterion without considering how compatible their personalities are, whether they spend good time together, and their mental and physical compatibility. However, we should remove the word "never" from our vocabulary and look at whether we can spend a lifetime with the person in front of us from other important aspects, not age. The right thing to do is to get to know them. Ultimately, wisdom is not in age, but in the head.
